Réseau des Femmes Leaders pour le Développement team is proud to publish our new guide entitled “Guide de Prévention et de Gestion des Conflits au Bénin : Focus sur le Nord”.
The RFLD’s aim is not to idealize the functioning of traditional conflict management mechanisms, but rather to assess their legitimacy, operationality and relevance in meeting the security needs of the Beninese population, particularly those living in the North, in the current socio-political context.
The second part of the document deciphers how traditional conflict management mechanisms work and how they are currently applied. Finally, the study also questions the economic, social and political dynamics of Benin from two angles, seeking to determine the extent to which local actors, religious and communal leaders in the North can or cannot rely on traditional mechanisms in their interventions and achieve greater results while maintaining peace, tranquility and stability. In order to support our hypothesis, the analysis focuses first on the socio-political and historical context of Benin and its northern region, and then on the importance of conflict prevention and management for stability.
The RFLD project “Contributing to conflict prevention and peace-building in the communes of Kandi and Parakou in Benin, through community capacity-building in conflict prevention strategies, non-violent communication and peace-building” has led to the development of a guide to conflict prevention and management in Benin: focus on the north.
This guide is financed by the Canadian Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI).
The guide is an invaluable tool that will enable local players to better prevent and manage conflict, providing knowledge and concrete tools for identifying the causes of conflict, developing prevention strategies and implementing conflict management mechanisms. The guide is the fruit of a long-term project that mobilized the skills and expertise of several players, including women leaders from RFLD.
The 67-page guide is only available in French.
We invite you to publish it on your various platforms.
