The fight against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) and Trafficking in Persons (TIP) in West Africa is a critical human rights issue affecting millions annually, exacerbated by poverty, conflict, and social inequalities. Despite ratification of the Maputo Protocol, significant gaps in implementation persist, while the prevalence of harmful practices such as Female Genital Mutilation and child marriage remains high due to cultural and political resistance. Francophone feminist movements, like the Réseau des Femmes Leaders pour le Développement, are pivotal in advocating for robust legal frameworks and accountability, yet face challenges including underfunding and slow political progress. Enhanced national commitment is crucial for effective change.
