We are proud to announce the release of our latest policy brief, “Empowering Young Women Human Rights Defenders in West Africa and the Sahel: Strengthening Youth-Led Civic Movements”, authored by Justice Alor, Campaign Assistant at the RFLD Ghana Office.
Published in March 2026, this brief shines a critical spotlight on the indispensable yet often overlooked role that young women play as human rights defenders across West Africa and the Sahel region. From grassroots advocacy to community mobilization, young women are at the forefront of civic movements that challenge injustice, defend civil liberties, and demand democratic accountability — frequently at great personal risk.
Through evidence-based analysis and actionable policy recommendations, this brief calls on governments, civil society organizations, and international partners to take concrete steps in strengthening legal protections, expanding resources, and creating enabling environments for young women-led movements to thrive.
At Réseau des Femmes Leaders pour le Développement (RFLD), we remain committed to amplifying the voices of young women human rights defenders and ensuring that their courage and contributions are met with the solidarity, protection, and institutional support they deserve.
We invite all our partners, stakeholders, and supporters to read, share, and champion the recommendations outlined in this brief.
