Effective and Innovative Approaches to Comprehensive EVAWG Programming in West and Central Africa

Ending violence against women and girls (EVAWG) in West and Central Africa is a critical issue driven by socio-cultural norms and economic disparities. Forms of gender-based violence include intimate partner violence and harmful practices such as female genital mutilation. Innovative programming, guided by a socio-ecological framework, is essential. Involving diverse stakeholders and utilizing qualitative data to understand individual experiences can enhance interventions. Sustainability is key, emphasizing local capacity building and cross-sector collaboration. Engaging communities and adapting programs to serve marginalized groups strengthens initiatives. Ultimately, comprehensive approaches can foster a region free from violence and promote both human rights and economic growth.

Ending FGM: A Call to Action for Women’s and Girls Rights

The Réseau des Femmes Leaders pour le Développement (RFLD) marks the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) by emphasizing that FGM is a human rights violation rather than a cultural tradition. The organization advocates for collective action to eliminate this harmful practice, stressing the necessity for safety and health rights for all women and girls. RFLD offers resources such as data on FGM, podcasts, and reports to support advocacy. They highlight the importance of education, survivor involvement, collaboration, law enforcement, and cultural sensitivity in addressing FGM. Support and action are urgently needed to combat FGM.
