The “Pocket Book Quiz” by RFLD aims to empower women and girls in Sub-Saharan Africa through knowledge and education. Comprising 400 questions across 40 sections, it addresses critical issues like reproductive health, ethical AI, and women’s roles in conflict resolution. This resource fosters understanding, combats ignorance, and inspires advocacy for gender equality. The quiz serves as both a tool for personal growth and a call to action for individuals committed to creating a fair and equitable world for women.

Celebrating Afro-Feminist Movement Efforts in the Ratification of the Maputo Protocol & Mechanisms for Human Rights Protection in Africa

The Maputo Protocol represents a significant achievement in advancing gender equality and women’s rights in Africa, attributed largely to Afro-feminist movements. These movements have been instrumental in advocating for and ensuring the protocol’s implementation, addressing the unique challenges faced by African women, including issues of race and class. As of December 2023, 45 member states have ratified the protocol, signaling commitment despite ongoing challenges from non-signatories and those that have signed but not ratified. Afro-feminist organizations play a pivotal role in monitoring the protocol’s implementation, lobbying for legal reforms, and promoting grassroots awareness, emphasizing that sustained advocacy and vigilance are crucial for realizing the protocol’s promise.

Defending Hard-Won Gains for Women & Girls: We CAN’T Go Back

In West and Central Africa, the hard-fought progress in women’s rights is at risk due to regressive policies, socio-economic instability, and cultural pushbacks. Despite historical achievements, patriarchal norms hinder advancements, with women facing significant challenges, including limited access to education and economic opportunities. Organizations like RFLD actively advocate for gender equality, empower women, and counter anti-feminist narratives. Efforts focus on grassroots mobilization, engaging men as allies, and addressing funding disparities faced by Francophone women’s rights organizations. The commitment to protect and advance women’s rights requires collective action, solidarity, and persistent advocacy to ensure that progress is maintained and expanded.

Responding to RFLD USAID Funding Terminations and the Need for Donor Advised Fund to support our work in the Sahel, West, Central, and Southern Africa

The Réseau des Femmes Leaders pour le Développement (RFLD) has suffered significant setbacks due to the cessation of funding from U.S. sources, including USAID. This freeze has led to the termination of key projects aimed at improving governance and addressing urgent issues faced by women and girls in West and Central Africa. Critical initiatives on sexual health education, water sanitation, and peacebuilding efforts are at risk, jeopardizing support for vulnerable groups. RFLD seeks partnerships and donations to reinstate these programs, emphasizing the urgent need for intervention to address gender-based violence, limited access to education, and healthcare inequalities for women in the region.
