The Canadian Embassy to the Republic of Benin has granted funding to the Réseau des Femmes Leaders pour le Développement (RFLD) through the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI).
The RFLD project involves training local and communal players, including traditional and religious leaders, as well as young men and women, in the communes of Kandi and Parakou, Benin, in non-violent communication, conflict prevention and the importance of building and maintaining peace. Consultations will be held to produce a prevention and orientation manual on conflict prevention and management strategies in Benin. Community forums will define the roles of traditional leaders, religious leaders and young people (women and men) and equip them to build and maintain peace. Interactive radio broadcasts will raise public awareness of conflict prevention and peacekeeping.
The Réseau des Femmes Leaders pour le Développement is a pan-African organization working to protect and promote the rights of women, girls and young people. RFLD has expanded the reach of inclusion in French-speaking sub-Saharan Africa through its programs.
RFLD has established effective cooperation to promote and protect the rights of young people and women and ensure their participation in decision-making spheres through awareness-raising, training and education programs, coalition-building and social movements, and advocacy using communication technologies. One of RFLD’s key contributions is its work with over 40 women-led organizations and its extensive network of CSOs, government partners and regional networks to influence the enabling environment for women’s rights.
