Hosted by RFLD in collaboration with our Partners Equality Now and SOAWR, we are organizing a 3 day activity in Niamey, Niger on CSOs Engagement to Accelerate Ratification of the Maputo Protocol. The activity will be held from 2 – 4 March 2024.
The activity will be facilitated by RFLD Secretary General Bertille Tabiyi G. M. – Carole Ageng’o from Equality Now and Tom Mulisa.
The main objective of the CSO engagement is to develop a strategy and a roadmap to accelerate the ratification of the Maputo Protocol by the Government of Niger.
The specific objectives include:
- To establish a strong CSO working group to influence the ratification of the Maputo Protocol in Niger.
- To assess the national social and political context and how these factors affect the ratification process, including how they offer opportunities or threats to the ratification of the Protocol by Niger.
- To develop and adopt a roadmap and strategy to popularize the Maputo Protocol among policymakers and the general public and to accelerate the ratification process in Niger.
- To equip CSOs in Niger with knowledge and skills to advocate for ratification in line with the adopted roadmap.
Expected Outcomes
- A string CSO Working Group established to influence the ratification of the Maputo Protocol in Niger.
- An assessment of the effect of the national social and political context on the ratification of the Maputo Protocol in Niger undertaken.
- Roadmap and strategy for the popularization and ratification of Maputo Protocol in Niger adopted.
- CSOs in Niger are equipped with knowledge and skills to advocate for ratification in line with the adopted roadmap.
