RFLD mobilizes CSOs to engage for the acceleration of the ratification of the Maputo Protocol  in Niger

Hosted by RFLD in collaboration with our Partners Equality Now and SOAWR, we are organizing a 3 day activity in Niamey, Niger on CSOs Engagement to Accelerate Ratification of the Maputo Protocol. The activity will be held from 2 – 4 March 2024.

The activity will be facilitated by RFLD Secretary General Bertille Tabiyi G. M. – Carole Ageng’o from Equality Now and Tom Mulisa.

The main objective of the CSO engagement is to develop a strategy and a roadmap to accelerate the ratification of the Maputo Protocol by the Government of Niger.

The specific objectives include:

  1. To establish a strong CSO working group to influence the ratification of the Maputo Protocol in Niger.
  2. To assess the national social and political context and how these factors affect the ratification process, including how they offer opportunities or threats to the ratification of the Protocol by Niger. 
  3. To develop and adopt a roadmap and strategy to popularize the Maputo Protocol among policymakers and the general public and to accelerate the ratification process in Niger.
  4. To equip CSOs in Niger with knowledge and skills to advocate for ratification in line with the adopted roadmap.

Expected Outcomes

  1. A string CSO Working Group established to influence the ratification of the Maputo Protocol in Niger. 
  2. An assessment of the effect of the national social and political context on the ratification of the Maputo Protocol in Niger undertaken. 
  3. Roadmap and strategy for the popularization and ratification of Maputo Protocol in Niger adopted.
  4. CSOs in Niger are equipped with knowledge and skills to advocate for ratification in line with the adopted roadmap.
