COMMUNIQUE
THEME: YOUTH AND FORCED DISPLACEMENT IN AFRICA: TRENDS, CHALLENGES AND PROSPECTS FOR SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS
RFLD President Ms. AGUEH Dossi Gloria Sekonnou will represent RFLGD at the African Union Youth Consultation in Kampala, Uganda, to discuss migration and refugee issues from December 02 to 03, 2019.

The Continental Youth Consultation will be organized under the auspices of the African Governance Architecture (AGA) Youth Engagement Strategy. The Consultation will be convened under the theme “Youth and forced displacement in Africa: Trends, challenges and perspectives towards sustainable solutions”. The main objective of the Consultation is to provide a safe space for young people to contribute to the discourse on finding sustainable solutions to forced displacement in Africa. The deliberations will contribute to policy discussions on the year’s theme by the AU’s political organs. The consultation also aims to harness the ideas, skills and creativity of young people to offer solutions to forced displacement through inter-generational and inter-regional exchanges.

The High-Level Dialogue Youth Consultations are an institutionalized initiative of the African Governance Platform aimed at facilitating youth participation in policy deliberations on democracy, governance and human rights. The Continental Youth Consultation will be jointly organized by the Department of Political Affairs of the African Union Commission as lead entity for the AU theme of the year, with the support of the AGA Secretariat. The Consultation will be hosted by the Government of the Republic of Uganda. Other partner organizations will provide technical and financial support for the dialogue.

AIMS
The overall aim of the Continental Youth Consultations is to provide a collaborative, open and inclusive space to foster meaningful youth participation in policy deliberations aimed at finding sustainable solutions to forced displacement in Africa.
The specific objectives of the Continental Youth Consultation are:
- Increase understanding of the normative and institutional frameworks that exist at all levels for protecting and assisting displaced people, with a particular focus on young people;
- Gathering opinions, experiences and dispelling myths and misconceptions about youth and forced displacement in Africa;
- Create a collaborative space for intergenerational reflection on trends, challenges and opportunities related to the impact of forced displacement in Africa on young people;
- Provide displaced youth with a platform to share experiences and lessons learned, as well as front-page conversations as key stakeholders in achieving sustainable solutions to forced displacement in Africa; and
- Develop practical strategies and policy recommendations to strengthen the meaningful engagement of young people in protection and assistance policies and programmatic initiatives for sustainable solutions.
EXPECTED RESULTS
Les résultats suivants sont envisagés à l’issue des discussions :
- Increased awareness of normative and policy frameworks on forced displacement in Africa among youth, youth-led and youth-targeted organizations and networks;
- Comparable experiences and lessons learned from forcibly displaced youth ;
- Strengthening interaction between young people and political decision-makers at all levels;
- The role of young people in achieving sustainable solutions is articulated; and
- Development of practical strategies and policy recommendations aimed at strengthening the meaningful participation of young people in protection and assistance policies and programmatic initiatives with a view to finding sustainable solutions.
