RFLD Joins WADEMOS Network Annual Meeting to Amplify Civil Society Responses to Democratic Recession in West Africa

Accra, Ghana, November 29, 2023 – The Network of Women Leaders for Development (RFLD) is present at the WADEMOS Network Annual Meeting, which is taking place in Accra, Ghana, from November 29 to 30, 2023. RFLD is a member of the Steering Committee of WADEMOS, a regional network of over 30 civil society organizations (CSOs) from the sub-region of West Africa.

The WADEMOS Annual Meeting is themed “Amplifying CSO responses to the democratic recession in West Africa”. It aims to provide network members with a space to reflect on the progress made, discuss new approaches and perspectives in response to the decline in democracy, identify relevant obstacles related to democratic questions and challenges in West Africa, discuss the prospects and the landscape of democracy in 2024, and reflect on the role of WADEMOS and CSOs in the fight against the decline of democracy in West Africa.

Ms. Florence Eniayehou, Head of Monitoring and Evaluation of the RFLD, and Mr. John Gbenagnon, Senior RFLD Officer for Human Rights and Democracy, represent the RFLD at the meeting. They are ready to share the RFLD’s experiences and good practices in responding to the decline of democracy, and to discuss the challenges and opportunities for the future in strengthening the resilience for democracy in West Africa.

“We are very pleased to participate in the WADEMOS Annual Meeting,” said Ms. Eniayehou. “This is an important opportunity for us to strengthen our collaboration with other CSOs in the sub-region and to reflect on how we can better address the challenges of the democratic recession in West Africa.”

Mr. Gbenagnon added: “We are convinced that collaboration between CSOs is essential for defending democracy in West Africa. We are eager to work with our WADEMOS partners to develop concrete strategies and action plans to strengthen the resilience of democracy in the region.”

The WADEMOS Annual Meeting is an important event for the civil society community in West Africa. It offers a unique opportunity for CSOs to share their experiences, discuss challenges and opportunities, and develop strategies to strengthen democracy in the region.
