Dear Supporter,
The Women Leaders Network for Development – Réseau des Femmes Leaders pour le développement (RFLD) is a women-led organization working to end discrimination, violence against women and girls, and promote gender equality and human rights across the Sahel, West, Central, and Southern Africa. We are driven by an unwavering commitment to advance gender equality and women’s rights, working tirelessly to dismantle barriers and empower women to reach their full potential.
As we embark on our ambitious 2023-2028 Strategic Plan, we invite you to join us on this transformative journey. This plan outlines critical initiatives designed to create a more just and equitable future for women and girls across the region. To bring this vision to life, we need your support.
The Landscape:
Sub-Saharan Africa faces complex challenges that disproportionately impact women and girls. Poverty, gender-based violence, limited access to education and healthcare, and underrepresentation in decision-making spaces are just some of the obstacles hindering their progress.
Despite these challenges, women across the region demonstrate remarkable resilience and leadership. They are at the forefront of grassroots movements, driving social change, and advocating for a better future. RFLD is committed to amplifying their voices, strengthening their capacity, and providing the resources they need to succeed.
Our Vision:
The RFLD 2023-2028 Strategic Plan is anchored in four key pillars:
- RFLD 01: Advocacy and support for women and girls’ rights, sexual and reproductive health, and representation in decision-making bodies. This pillar focuses on ensuring that women and girls have the agency to make informed choices about their bodies, lives, and futures. We will advocate for legal reforms, provide access to comprehensive sexual and reproductive healthcare, and support women’s leadership in all spheres of society.
- RFLD 02: Civil liberties and democratic values with a focus on human rights and civic space. This pillar recognizes that a thriving democracy is essential for gender equality. We will work to protect and expand civic space, promote human rights, and empower women to participate fully in democratic processes.
- RFLD 03: Multisectoral commitment for economic and climate justice for women and girls in Sub-Saharan Africa. This pillar addresses the intersectional nature of gender inequality. We will promote economic empowerment for women, advocate for climate justice, and ensure that women’s voices are heard in shaping sustainable development policies.
- RFLD 04: Strengthening and consolidating the principle of participatory governance, the innovative capacity of civil society, and the development of the media. This pillar focuses on building strong and resilient institutions that are responsive to the needs of women and girls. We will support the development of a vibrant civil society, promote media freedom, and advocate for participatory governance that includes women at all levels.
Our Goals:
With a fundraising target of $10 million, RFLD aims to achieve the following ambitious goals over the next five years:
- Strengthen women’s rights across civil, environmental, economic, social, and political spheres. We will work to dismantle discriminatory laws and practices, promote women’s access to resources and opportunities, and ensure their full participation in decision-making processes.
- Increase women’s representation in decision-making bodies. We will support women’s leadership at all levels, from local communities to national parliaments, and advocate for gender parity in all sectors.
- Provide resources and support for women-led organizations tackling gender barriers. We believe that investing in women-led organizations is crucial for achieving sustainable change. We will provide financial and technical assistance, capacity building, and networking opportunities to these organizations.
