RFLD’s Inaugural Reference Report on African Francophone Feminist Movements

Dear Partner,

We write to share with you, with both pride and a sharp awareness of the responsibility it represents, the publication of RFLD’s inaugural flagship analytical report — the State of African Francophone Feminist Movements 2026.

For too long, the question of African francophone feminist movements has been treated as a secondary footnote in a conversation framed by anglophone references. This report is our first attempt — and we hope the first of many — to put the question where it belongs: at the centre. It documents the structural funding gap, the contraction of civic space across the Sahel and West Africa, and the rich theoretical and programmatic innovation that our movements continue to produce despite operational conditions that demand strategic patience and adapted methodologies. It articulates RFLD’s theory of change through six operational concepts — theory of change, trust-based philanthropy, participatory grantmaking, intersectional analysis, movement infrastructure, ecosystem-level work — and formulates seven strategic recommendations directed to the international philanthropic community.

The report is published simultaneously in English and French, with full institutional standing across both editions. We attach both PDFs to this message.

With my warm regards,
