Support for the movement, and for you.
This page is for the people RFLD exists to serve: the grassroots organisations that carry the work in their own communities, and the women, girls and defenders who need help, protection or a safe way to reach us. If you are in immediate danger, please contact your local emergency services first. To leave this page quickly, close the browser tab.
RFLD is a network of more than 1,143 women-led and community-based organisations. We do more than convene them: we move both resources and management systems directly to them, so a small organisation with a big mandate can do its own work, at its own scale, and still be standing at the end of a funding cycle. Priority goes to the francophone West Africa and Sahel corridor, and to organisations led by women, Vulnerable Groups and people with disabilities.
The WAFF Fund
Direct cash grants to grassroots feminist organisations, with a dedicated fast channel for women human rights defenders facing imminent threat. Grants are flexible, so your team can spend on what the work actually needs.
The Africa Grant Portfolio
A continental re-granting window extending this model toward organisations across all 55 African Union member states, ring-fenced for groups led by women and girls, Vulnerable Groups and people with disabilities.
Organizational Resilience Program
A full, offline, bilingual management suite donated in kind, covering finance, grants, monitoring, human resources, safeguarding, communications and governance, with the technical support to make it stick.
Who is eligible, and how to reach us
Support opens through periodic calls, so the exact eligibility criteria and timelines change from one window to the next. The current opportunities are always published on our Tenders page, with the requirements and closing dates for each call. If nothing is open when you visit, you can still register your interest at any time and we will let you know when a relevant call opens. We keep the process proportionate to the size of the grant, and we give feedback where we can.
If you are in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first. To leave this page quickly, close the browser tab. Where you can, reach us from a device and a network you trust, and ask us to move the conversation to an encrypted channel.
Backlash is often the price of progress, and the women who lead change are frequently the first to be targeted. RFLD exists in part to keep them safe enough to stay in the fight. There are three ways we can help.
Defender protection
Women human rights defenders under threat can reach us for rapid-response support and a security assessment. Write to integrity@rflgd.org and tell us only what is safe to share.
Digital-safety help
Through the NAFASI initiative we run digital-security support for activists and defenders in French, English and Portuguese. Start with the Digital Safety Compendium, then ask us for one-to-one help.
Report a concern
Anyone can raise a safeguarding or integrity concern about RFLD or a partner, confidentially and, where possible, anonymously, through our confidential reporting channel. You will not face retaliation for speaking up.
Much of what RFLD builds is public infrastructure that anyone in the movement can use, with no login and no fee, in French and English. If a community organiser, a parliamentarian or a journalist can pick it up and use it, that is the point.
€
Direct, flexible cash grants to ten grassroots organisations across francophone West Africa through the WAFF Fund, with a fast channel for defenders under threat.
Systems for 500 organisations
A full offline, bilingual management suite, an in-kind grant worth about US$5,000 per organisation, going to a first cohort of 500 nonprofits.
12 free tools, open to all
Our bilingual Data Center is free to use with no login and no fee, from treaty trackers to a defenders’ safety compendium.
