The Francophone Africa HUB, launched on 20 January 2026

The main durable achievement of the period. It answers the shrinking of civic space, digital threats against defenders, the language barrier and the fragmentation of francophone initiatives. It offers certified learning pathways on the Maputo Protocol, CEDAW, Resolution 1325, climate justice and women’s leadership, and an observatory documenting threats against defenders. Stories of change

Individual

Safer devices, verified commitments

After the Advocacy Nexus, defenders locked their devices, ended password reuse and moved to encrypted tools. The Defender’s Passport records commitments at 30 days, 90 days and 12 months.

Relational

A named chain of solidarity

The Solidarity Card turns informal mutual help into a chain of alert, verification, protection, advocacy and international solidarity, shared by defenders from eight countries.

Community

Local plans linked to a national institution

In Benin, 50 women leaders produced action plans grounded in their own areas, with six representatives of the National Institute for Women in the room.

Institutional

New routes to the African Commission

Three organisations have applied for ACHPR observer status and four national coalitions are preparing communications or parallel reports for the ACHPR and the Universal Periodic Review.

Deliverables produced

Forty outputs held by RFLD and available to GIZ on request, including one durable platform (the HUB), two protection tools for defenders, thirteen advocacy and normative documents, and five methodological and training tools.
