RFLD workshop with the President of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR) – Kinshasa, DRC

The Réseau des Femmes Leaders pour le Développement (RFLD) organized a workshop from July 29 to 31, 2022 in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, on opening up civic space and human rights.

The workshop was organized in partnership with the CHARM PROJECT. The workshop was attended by the Honorable Rémy Ngoy Lumbu, President of the African Commission on Human Rights (ACHPR) and current ACHPR Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders and Focal Point on Retaliation.

RFLD works in Sub-Saharan Africa to develop civil society, human rights defenders, independent media and journalists in the region, by supporting actions to protect and extend the freedoms to express oneself, organize and act. The Consortium is funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA).

To ensure that African media and civil society organizations develop to become viable players in a changing political, technical and economic landscape, the Women Leaders for Development Network supports the creation of new coalitions and the strengthening of existing ones. These partnerships promote favorable environments and sustainable sources of journalism and civic participation, enabling the media and civil society to provide citizens with the information, analysis and support they need to exercise their human rights and civil liberties.
