Funding Feminist Movements in Francophone West Africa: 2026 Data

Ahead of GivingTuesday (1 December), RFLD publishes “Funding Feminist Movements in Francophone West Africa: 2026 Data”.

Feminist organisations receive about 1 per cent of gender-related aid, and official development assistance fell by 23.1 per cent in 2025. In Africa, 55 per cent of feminist organisations surveyed by FEMNET in 2026 have no financial reserves. The report brings together global data, the voices of francophone feminist leaders and RFLD’s own grant-making in 2026: 17 grants worth US$322,100 in eight countries.

What RFLD asks of funders

  • Commit a defined share of gender equality funding to francophone West Africa.
  • Give multi-year, flexible grants that let organisations build reserves.
  • Fund through intermediaries rooted in the region, and accept proposals and reports in French.
