The Women Leaders Network for Development (RFLD) and Benin’s National Institute for Women (Institut National de la Femme, INF) hold a joint side event on the margins of the 89th Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights in Dakar on Tuesday 13 October 2026.

The panel, “Women in politics and technology-facilitated violence”, showcases INF’s “ELLES en Politique” platform as a national good practice and links it to the monitoring of technology-facilitated gender-based violence led by RFLD under the NAFASI initiative.

It is part of the partnership between the two institutions. An INF delegation led by its Executive Secretary, Ms Flore Djinou, takes part in the NGOs Forum from 8 to 10 October and in the opening of the Session, followed on 15 and 16 October by an immersion day at the RFLD Dakar office and a study visit to the Senegalese ministry in charge of family and women’s rights.

Women who enter politics are among the first targets of online harassment and smear campaigns, which push them out of public life. The panel will share Benin’s experience, open a dialogue with the African Commission’s mechanisms, national institutions and civil society, and identify ways to better protect women candidates and elected officials. Time and venue will be announced shortly. Media enquiries: communications.info@rflgd.org.
