On this International Women’s Human Rights Defenders Day, RFLD honors the extraordinary women who are fearless champions for gender equality and human rights in Sub-Saharan Africa. These dedicated women stand at the frontline of the struggle against discrimination, violence against women and girls, and injustice. They operate in challenging environments, often facing intimidation, harassment, and even violence, yet they remain undeterred in their pursuit of a more equitable world.

Women human rights defenders in Sub-Saharan Africa are not just individuals; they are catalysts for change. They are the driving force behind the movement to dismantle the deep-rooted patriarchal structures that have held back women and girls for generations. Their work is essential to creating a more just and equitable society for all, regardless of gender or social status.

RFLD recognizes the profound impact that women human rights defenders have on shaping a more just and equitable Sub-Saharan Africa. Their unwavering commitment to justice is an inspiration to us all, and their work is essential to addressing the region’s pressing social and political issues.

As a Sub-Saharan feminist organization, RFLD is deeply committed to supporting and amplifying the voices of women human rights defenders. We believe that their perspectives and experiences are invaluable, and we are dedicated to advocating for their protection and empowerment.
