The Women Leaders for Development Network team is proud to publish our new report entitled “Legislative framework on girls’ and women’s rights in West Africa”.
This report updates the legislative framework with a focus on women and girls in the 15 West African countries: ,Benin, Togo, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso, Gambia, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, and Guinea.
All laws have been updated to 2023.
Despite the existence of legislative frameworks, gender inequalities are still reflected in the human development gap between men and women. Inequalities are to be found at all levels: political, cultural, legal, sociological, economic and so on. It is therefore with the aim of seeing these inequalities considerably reduced to make way for true social inclusion that the Réseau des Femmes Leaders pour le Développement (RFLD) is making this document available to all, targeting the countries of the West African region.
The research focuses on the issues of gender-based violence (GBV), sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR), people with disabilities, female genital mutilation (FGM), women’s political participation, women’s land rights, institutional mechanisms and the legal framework for promoting women in decision-making bodies.
The 114-page report is only available in French.
