Responding to RFLD USAID Funding Terminations and the Need for Donor Advised Fund to support our work in the Sahel, West, Central, and Southern Africa

The Réseau des Femmes Leaders pour le Développement (RFLD) has suffered significant setbacks due to the cessation of funding from U.S. sources, including USAID. This freeze has led to the termination of key projects aimed at improving governance and addressing urgent issues faced by women and girls in West and Central Africa. Critical initiatives on sexual health education, water sanitation, and peacebuilding efforts are at risk, jeopardizing support for vulnerable groups. RFLD seeks partnerships and donations to reinstate these programs, emphasizing the urgent need for intervention to address gender-based violence, limited access to education, and healthcare inequalities for women in the region.

Women’s Struggle for Water in Francophone Africa Climate Justice

Women’s Struggle for Water in Francophone Africa

In French-speaking Africa, clean water scarcity poses significant societal challenges, disproportionately affecting women who are primarily responsible for securing water for their families and livelihoods. Feminist activists highlight how power imbalances and social norms hinder women’s access to water. Initiatives like the RFLD’s handbook aim to empower women’s advocacy for water justice, emphasizing solidarity and capacity building. The neoliberal approach to water management, often resulting in increased costs and marginalization, contrasts with feminist perspectives advocating for public control and communal participation in resource management. A concerted effort is needed to uphold the human right to water and address gender inequalities in access and decision-making.
