Accountability in Action: Strengthening WHRD Protection Networks in West and Central Africa
In West and Central Africa, women human rights defenders (WHRDs) encounter significant threats, including violence and political instability, while advocating for gender equality and social justice. The Réseau des Femmes Leaders pour le Développement (RFLD) is vital in creating networks for their support and accountability. Effective protection necessitates clear reporting mechanisms, legal training, and community engagement to foster a culture of accountability. Philanthropic funding should focus on long-term, flexible support to meet WHRDs’ unique needs. Collaboration and the use of digital tools are crucial for amplifying advocacy efforts, ultimately ensuring WHRDs are empowered to lead in their communities and drive change.
