The Women Leaders Network is on a mission to champion gender equality and human rights across Sub-Saharan Africa. To achieve this ambitious goal, we are raising $10 million USD to fund our strategic plan for 2023-2028.

The fund will be used to directly address issues of discrimination and violence faced by women and girls in the region. The Women Leaders Network is committed to creating a safer and more equitable future for all.

Founded in 2012, RFLD has established itself as a powerful network, uniting 470 members from over 60 women-led organizations in 27 countries. Together, we stand as a collective force, advocating for and protecting the rights of women and youth, ensuring their active participation in shaping a more inclusive and equitable future. This support will serve as a powerful validation of our work and a testament to the critical role women play in Sub-Saharan Africa’s development.

This vital funding will act as a catalyst for change, allowing RFLD to significantly amplify its impact across several key areas:

1. Expanding Our Reach and Strengthening the Enabling Environment:

RFLD boasts a vast network of women’s rights organizations (CSOs), government partners, and regional networks. This contribution will empower us to further strengthen these crucial connections. By fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange, we can create a more robust enabling environment for women’s rights across Sub-Saharan Africa. This will involve strategic investments in building the capacity of our member organizations, facilitating communication with policymakers, and fostering partnerships with other key stakeholders.

2. Deepening Our Expertise and Advancing Key Issues:

RFLD’s core areas of focus encompass critical issues that disproportionately impact women and youth. These include gender equality, climate justice, sexual and reproductive health rights, and the fight against harmful traditional practices. This donation will allow us to invest in deepening our expertise in these areas. We will conduct in-depth research, develop innovative strategies, and share best practices with our network, ensuring our advocacy efforts are informed and impactful.

3. Empowering Diverse Voices and Grassroots Action:

At the heart of RFLD’s mission lies the fundamental belief that lasting change is driven by empowered voices at all levels. This funding will allow us to provide long-term support and capacity building for grassroots women’s rights organizations. This will involve offering training programs, facilitating access to resources, and amplifying their voices on regional and international platforms. By supporting these organizations, we ensure that the needs and perspectives of women at the community level are heard and addressed.

4. Championing Policy Change and Influencing Decision-Making:

The true measure of progress lies in translating advocacy efforts into tangible policy changes. This fund will enable RFLD to intensify its engagement with policymakers at national, regional, and international levels. We will conduct targeted advocacy campaigns, engage in strategic negotiations, and build coalitions to ensure that policies and legislation are grounded in principles of gender equality and human rights.

5. Building a Sustainable Future and Ensuring Long-Term Impact:

Sustainability is paramount to RFLD’s vision for a future where women and youth can thrive. This contribution will allow us to invest in innovative strategies for long-term financial resilience. This may involve exploring diversified funding models, developing fundraising initiatives, and investing in organizational capacity building. By ensuring RFLD’s financial sustainability, we guarantee our continued effectiveness in empowering women and youth for generations to come.

Beyond the immediate impact, this call for funding carries profound symbolic significance. It highlights the growing global recognition of the critical role women play in Sub-Saharan Africa’s development. It serves as an inspiration to other philanthropic organizations and individuals to invest in women’s leadership and empowerment initiatives.
