Gender Perspectives on the Extractives Industry and its Effects on Women in West and Central Africa

Artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) employs over 44.75 million people globally, with a significant role in West and Central Africa. The Africa Mining Vision advocates for a gender-inclusive approach to ASM, recognizing women’s contributions and advocating for secure land rights, access to finance, and equitable representation in decision-making. Transforming ASM requires commitment from governments, civil society, and mining companies to empower women and promote socio-economic justice.
